Turkey is a majestic country that straddles two continents and has been home to some of the greatest empires the word has ever seen. First the Romans conquered, which then slowly became the Eastern Roman Empire, also known as the Byzantine Empire. Then there was the colossal Ottoman Empire that ruled for nearly 500 years.

These days, Turkey is a progressive and modern democracy and a very stable country which is just one of the reasons why it is also very popular with tourists. In fact, two million people each year visit the region of Dalaman alone.

Found in the south west corner on the Aegean Sea, this area of outstanding natural beauty has long had an appeal. The Romans built Ephesus here, the second largest city in the Empire, and the ruins can still be seen to this day. It’s a big draw for tourists in the area.

It is not surprising that the Romans chose this place as the natural attractions make it very appealing. Miles of golden beaches line the coast, all backed by spectacular mountain ranges. The warm waters are great for sailing, swimming and trying out a range of watersports offered at most of the resorts. However, if relaxing on the beach is more your thing then that’s fine too and there are plenty of places to spread your beach towel.

Nightlife in Dalaman is also recommended with plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants catering for tourists. The scene is lively and there is plenty to do for night owls. However, children and families are at home in the resorts too. In fact, whatever you age or budget, Dalaman has something to offer.

Another major draw is the weather, which is fairly special throughout the summer months. If you really can’t stand the heat, then avoid high summer as things do get toasty.

Springtime and autumn are usually very pleasant so it might be better to go then. Tan lovers, however, will love the mid thirties temperatures common in the summer.

So, if you want to experience history first hand, relax on stunning beaches overlooked by the Taurus Mountains, try new adrenaline sports and top up your tan, then Dalaman might be the perfect place. With a range of Thomas Cook holidays to choose from – see   http://www.thomascook.com/holidays/turkey-dalaman-holidays/ for more information, this could be the ideal destination for your spring, summer or autumn break.
