Fish jumping up and down but I didn’t catch a thing!

Asked by: 2395 views , , , , , , , ,

Hi everyone,

I was out fishing the other night, and I found this great spot. A few hours before sunset, the bass start going crazy – jumping up out of the water, splashing all over the place.

I tried everything I had in my tackle box but I didn’t catch a thing. I thought I should be trying buzzbaits and other top water lures, but they didn’t work. Now I’m really not sure if I was doing something wrong, or if there was a reason the bass weren’t biting. (I’m new to fishing, so it could have something to do with my technique!)

Could be that they were taking so much ‘natura’ prey that your buzzer balls didn’t tempt them. Another problem could be the color of bait that you’re using. Stick to black since this shows up great against a moonlit sky, other colors can come off as grey and blend too much into the background.

Don’t hesitate to use a good noisy lure, either, these are pretty hefty fish and they aren’t shy about going after something that attracts their attention fast. Use your buzzbait near rocks or grass, too, where the fish like to lurk.

Are you sure they were bass? Sounds to me like they might have been Carp – and carp jump like crazy.
