Posted by on February 8, 2013 0 Comments Category : Fishing Blog Tags : ,

The Lake of the Ozarks is a beautiful 54,000 acre reservoir that offers world class fishing for both the competitive angler and for those just looking to relax.  A huge variety of fish can be found in the lake as well, from largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, hybrid striped bass, bluegill and catfish.  With such a rich array of species, you can be sure your line will be jumping.

When to Come

Any time of the year is great for fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks.  If you are looking for the peak fishing times, spring and fall would be your best bets.  Expect lightening-quick strikes in the warm top-waters of the lake in the spring to get your heart pumping with excitement.

In the summer, you’ll have to go a little deeper to find the bass located in the drop off points.  Dock fishing is a great way to spend your summer vacation of the Lake.  In the fall, the fish find the shallower waters and linger near the surface.

Where to Fish

You can fish the lake by boat.  Or if you would rather, you can just toss your line off a boat dock.  There are many boat docks for you to use throughout the lake.  Apart from the docks, try dipping your line around outcrops of rock and brush piles.  If you are unsure of where to fish, or want some sure-fire tips, contact one of the lake’s fishing guides.  They will give you great directions to the hot spots, and can even provide you with equipment and lunch.

If you love the thrill of competition, Lake of the Ozarks will suite you well.  Over 500 amateur and professional tournaments are held every year at the lake.  Besides having regional and even national tournaments, there are a large number of local and charitable tournaments.  Come for the Big Bass Bash in September, and you could walk away with $100,000.  Check the local listing of tournaments and events before coming down to the lake.

What You Will Need

Before casting your line, you will need a Missouri fishing licence.  Everyone who fishes the lake needs a licence with the exception of Missouri residents who are over the age of 65 or under the age of 16.  Familiarize yourself with the regulations regarding limits and minimum lengths for your keeps.

Unforgettable Fishing

After fishing on the Lake of the Ozarks you will quickly understand why the Lake of the Ozarks is a favourite fishing destination for so many people.  The Lake of the Ozarks has all of the right elements to make a memorable fishing vacation.  If you are looking for a place to relax and casually fish, or want to enter into some highly competitive fishing tournaments, the Lake of the Ozarks will give you those elements.

And after a hard day of fishing, you can get off the boat or dock, and enjoy some succulent fish offered by a wide array of restaurants.  The Lake of the Ozarks has something for everyone – especially anglers.  Ready for a fishing adventure?
